Heritage terrace façade repainted on rope in Redfern
Flaking paint stripped back and a heritage terrace façade in Redfern repainted from the rope: cornice, arched window surrounds, mouldings and the wall above the street awning.
Project overview
The front façade of a heritage terrace in Redfern had flaking, failing paint across its cornice, arched window surrounds and mouldings. Our painters prepared and repainted the façade from the rope, from the parapet down to the street awning, without putting scaffold on the footpath.
Scope of works
- Loose and flaking paint removed from the cornice, mouldings and window surrounds
- Façade repairs before painting
- Façade repainted from the parapet down to the awning
- Before and after photos of the façade
Access method
Painters worked on two ropes each from the roof, so the footpath, the awning and the street below stayed clear. On rope, the cornice and mouldings are at arm's length, which is what heritage detail needs.
Challenges
Street trees in front of the building, an awning over the footpath and detailed mouldings would have made scaffold awkward and expensive. The ornate detail had to be prepared by hand so the profiles stayed crisp under the new paint.
Outcome
The façade has a fresh, even finish with the cornice, arches and mouldings clearly defined, completed with no scaffold on the street.
